Hot Bird Saunas in Waitsfield, Vermont is a wood-fired outdoor sauna experience in the Mad River Valley — one of Vermont’s most beloved four-season recreation destinations, home to Sugarbush Resort and Mad River Glen and surrounded by the Green Mountains’ most dramatic terrain. Hot Bird brings the authentic sauna experience to the heart of a valley known for its commitment to outdoor living, farm-to-table culture, and community wellness.
Sessions alternate between the wood-fired heat of the sauna and cold plunges in natural water — the Mad River Valley’s rivers, ponds, and streams providing a naturally chilled immersion option that amplifies the physiological benefit and visceral pleasure of contrast therapy. For skiers arriving from Sugarbush or Mad River Glen, cyclists finishing the Gap routes, hikers descending from the Long Trail, or Mad River Valley residents building a consistent wellness practice, Hot Bird Saunas offers an experience that is authentically and unmistakably Vermont.
Commercial Saunas
Hot Bird’s commercial builds go beyond heat to create spaces for connection. From boutique wellness studios to high-end spas, we partner with you to design and build saunas that anchor communities—crafted to endure and designed for everyday ritual.
THE SOCIAL sauna
THE PROJECT
We partnered with Kuya Wellness in Austin, Texas to bring their vision of a Social Sauna to life. In under four weeks, we transformed an unused storage room into a 14×14-foot, three-tier sauna designed for presence, laughter, and shared ritual.
The space comfortably accommodates up to thirty people and features three tiers of cedar bench seating, a custom tiled floor with an integrated drain for easy commercial cleaning, and dual 15-kilowatt Harvia heaters for consistent, powerful heat. Three banks of color-adjustable LED lighting allow the atmosphere to shift seamlessly from energizing social sessions to grounded, meditative experiences.
Today, Kuya hosts guided breathwork and meditation inside the sauna—using heat as a catalyst for both physical renewal and intentional connection.
Residential Saunas
Hot Bird saunas are architected, not assembled. Built the traditional Finnish way, they’re a long-term investment in your home and your wellbeing—not a shortcut. This isn’t a kit, and it shows in every detail.
THE FAMILY sauna
THE PROJECT
This sauna was built using reclaimed posts and beams from a 175-year-old barn on the property—our first expression of what would become our signature approach to residential sauna design. Asymmetrical overhangs frame unobstructed views through the window on one side, while creating integrated wood-drying storage on the other. Smooth shiplap siding contrasts with repurposed timbers, resulting in a structure that feels both rustic and refined. Like every Hot Bird sauna, it’s expertly insulated and ventilated, reaching 180°F in just 25 minutes.
