Outsi Forest Bathhouse in Plymouth, Vermont is one of New England’s most extraordinary outdoor thermal wellness experiences — a fully immersive forest bathhouse that places guests within nature’s healing environment for a three-hour journey through heat, cold, water, and deep rest. Tucked in the forests of Plymouth, Vermont — a quiet hill town between Ludlow and Woodstock in the Green Mountains — Outsi creates an experience that is simultaneously ancient and completely contemporary: the Nordic bathing tradition delivered in a setting of breathtaking natural beauty.
The facility’s thermal circuit includes a wood-fired sauna, cold plunge in a natural pond, a wood-fired hot tub, a steam shower, and a cozy lounge — all situated outdoors in the forest, where the sounds, light, and air of the Vermont woods become active participants in the wellness experience. Sessions are three hours long — genuinely enough time to move through multiple rounds of the heat-cold-rest cycle and experience its full cumulative benefit. All essentials are provided: towels, cozy robes, snacks, herbal infusions, and water. Nothing is needed but an open mind and a willingness to surrender to the rhythm of heat, cold, and forest stillness. Outsi Forest Bathhouse is bookable by private appointment and accommodates both solo visitors and small groups seeking an unforgettable Vermont wellness experience.
the sauna
Built from scratch, our wood-fired Cedar and Aspen sauna is down the hill, overlooking the pond and forest. We keep the temperature between 160F – 190F, adding water to rounded olivine stones to promote humidity in the air and equilibrium between dryness and wetness, the Finnish idea of löyly.
the hot tub
On the other side of the pond is our wood-fired snorkel tub, filled with 100% untreated mountain water, offering a place to soak while watching the trees, stargazing, or even catching a glimpse of an owl.
