The Equinox Golf Resort & Spa in Manchester combines a historic hotel, a championship golf course and full spa facilities at the foot of Mount Equinox.
The hotel has run continuously since 1769 — among the oldest in the United States — and the guest list over two and a half centuries includes four presidents. Mary Todd Lincoln summered here with her sons, and Robert Todd Lincoln later built Hildene, his estate, a few miles down the road.
The golf course is a Walter Travis design from 1927, restored in the early 1990s, running across rolling terrain below the mountain.
Resort spas at this scale offer thermal facilities — sauna, steam, plunge and rest areas — alongside treatment rooms. The combination of a round of golf or a day on the mountain followed by heat is one of the more defensible uses of the practice, since both load the body in ways heat genuinely addresses.
