SAVU Pop-Up Sauna in Cambridge, Vermont is the original SAVU experience — the flagship location that launched one of New England’s most innovative outdoor sauna companies, nestled in the Green Mountains above the village of Jeffersonville with sweeping views of Smugglers’ Notch and Mount Mansfield. Founded by Dave Nelson and Nicole Sweeney (an architect by training), SAVU Cambridge was built with a conviction that a uniquely American outdoor sauna culture was waiting to emerge — one that celebrated nature, privacy, and the profound restoration of the heat-cold cycle over communal sweat bathing.
The Cambridge site sits on a residential dirt road above the Sweeney family property, accessible by private booking. The experience includes a changing room, outdoor fire pit, spring-fed cold water for cooling, and unobstructed mountain views that make the setting as restorative as the sauna itself. No two saunas SAVU builds are exactly alike — the company sources western red cedar for interiors and emphasizes handcraft quality that produces wood grain matches and joinery that guests describe as genuinely beautiful. Sessions are rented privately by the hour, accommodating the individual, couple, or small group preference that SAVU has identified as central to the experience its guests most value. SAVU has since expanded to Burlington Lakeside, Madbush Falls in the Mad River Valley, and is actively growing its network of outdoor sauna locations across the United States.
