Perspire Sauna Studio on North Lamar serves central and north Austin.

North Lamar runs the length of the city and functions as one of Austin’s defining commercial corridors — a mix of old motels, record shops, taquerias and newer development that has absorbed much of the city’s growth. The stretch around the studio sits close to the Triangle and Hyde Park, among the older residential neighbourhoods.

The Perspire model runs private infrared suites with chromotherapy lighting, booked by the slot with no communal element.

Infrared heats the body directly rather than warming the surrounding air, so the cabin runs at perhaps 130°F while producing a sweat comparable to a much hotter traditional room, over a longer and considerably gentler session.

Central Texas changes what the practice is for. Summers run above 100°F for extended stretches, which makes a hot room a harder proposition from June through September, and winters are mild enough that contrast requires a plunge tub rather than a door. The appeal leans toward recovery and circulation rather than the restorative warmth that drives the practice further north.
