Morning Dew Sauna Company in Hopkinton, New Hampshire is Central New Hampshire’s first wood-fired public sauna — a beautifully personal, community-rooted sauna experience created by former educator Paul Barnwell and his wife Rebecca after they moved to Hopkinton in 2022 and discovered that the area had no outdoor sauna facility. The sauna sits behind the Barnwells’ South Road property in a compact cedar-lined trailer, heated by a wood stove to 170 to 190°F using seasoned hardwood — ash, maple, and oak — that Paul prepares and tends himself. The surrounding landscape of woods and garden creates a genuinely peaceful, nature-connected setting that guests consistently describe as one of the most calming wellness experiences available in the Concord area.

Two session formats serve different needs: Community Sessions at $29 per person accommodate up to five guests for a 60-minute shared sauna experience that reflects the social, community-building intention at Morning Dew’s heart. Private Group Sessions at $145 accommodate up to six guests for 75 minutes of exclusive sauna access — ideal for celebrations, friend groups, and small events.

Paul designed Morning Dew as an antidote to digital saturation and social isolation — a place where people step away from screens, step outdoors, and find the particular quality of ease and connection that a warm, wood-fired room in nature reliably produces. An outdoor shower with hot and cold water, bench towels, essential oils, and fresh water complete the experience. This is a home business, so you will be greeted by homeowner and sauna attendant Paul Barnwell or his wife Rebecca upon arrival. Please park in the driveway or the designated parking area. Car-pooling is encouraged to minimize traffic on our quiet, residential road.

The sauna will be preheated, so you don’t have to worry about tending the stove. Paul will review rules and provide you with some operational and experience tips, then leave you alone except for one check-in during your session to stoke the fire if needed.

I’m Paul Barnwell, a former English teacher and host of the Morning Dew Sauna Company. This project is a home-based business located behind our barn at a 1850-era farm property in Hopkinton, NH. We are centrally located in the greater Concord area, close to both I-93 and I-89.

Morning Dew Sauna is an outdoor experience. We hope you’ll feel connected and inspired by the surroundings: the rhythms of changing seasons, the weathered barn boards, the cold dew on the grass, the rugged stone walls. You’ll be enveloped by the sauna’s heat and löyly, the Finnish word for steam released by splashing water on the hot rocks. A cold shower or cold plunge (with private rentals) provides an exhilarating contrast.

North Country Saunas out of MIllis, Massachusetts built our sauna, while everything else is handcrafted and DIY. Redwood lumber stashed away in the rafters became duckboards for the outdoor shower and saunas. Barn boards became signs. Felled branches became door handles.

I’m optimistic this project will become a “third space” of sorts. It’s not the workplace; it’s not home. It’s a spot to connect with others, to feel rejuvenated, to have an outdoor adventure, to unplug, and more. As I’ve learned more about nordic sauna culture (and there’s always more to learn), it’s clear there’s no best way to experience sauna.
