DermaSea operates in Tisbury on Martha’s Vineyard, which makes it one of very few facilities in this directory that requires a boat to reach.

Tisbury is better known as Vineyard Haven, the island’s main ferry port and the only one with year-round service from Woods Hole. The island’s population runs around twenty thousand in winter and well over a hundred thousand in summer, a swing that shapes every business on it.

Island facilities operate under constraints mainland ones do not. Everything arrives by ferry, staffing is difficult because housing is scarce and expensive, and the seasonal swing makes year-round operation genuinely hard. That a facility exists at all reflects real commitment to the year-round community.

The name suggests skin treatment with a marine emphasis, which fits an island setting — seaweed and mineral treatments have a long history in coastal spa traditions from Brittany to Ireland.

The Vineyard’s water is cold enough for most of the year, and the north-shore beaches on Vineyard Sound are more sheltered than the Atlantic side.
