Plunge and Sweat operates in Chatham, at the outer elbow of Cape Cod where the peninsula turns north toward Provincetown.
The name gives the order of operations, and it is the right one. The traditional sequence is heat first, then cold, then rest — but experienced practitioners often start with a brief cold exposure to sharpen the contrast, and the two-word name captures the alternation better than either word alone would.
Chatham is among the Cape’s more affluent and picturesque towns, with a working fishing fleet, a lighthouse, and the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge stretching south into Nantucket Sound. The Atlantic here is genuinely cold: water temperatures on the outer shore stay below 60°F for most of the year.
That matters for the practice. A cold plunge tub is an engineered substitute for something the Cape provides free for nine months of the year, and facilities positioned near open water can offer the sequence in its original form.
The Outer Cape is roughly two hours from Boston and gets very busy between June and September. Book well ahead in season, and expect more flexibility outside it.
