Westerly is an unusual town. It grew on granite quarrying — Westerly granite went into monuments across the country — and holds Watch Hill at its southern tip, one of the more exclusive stretches of the New England coast. Misquamicut’s beaches run several miles along the Atlantic.

The eco framing suggests attention to products and materials, which in a spa context usually means avoiding the synthetic fragrance and preservative load that conventional treatment products carry. Whether that produces measurable difference is arguable; that many people prefer it is not.

For sauna specifically, material choice matters more than in most rooms. Cedar and hemlock are used because they resist warping under heat and humidity cycling and stay cool to touch; treated or resinous woods can outgas at temperature, which is why sauna interiors are traditionally left unfinished.

Westerly has Amtrak service on the Northeast Corridor. Book ahead, particularly in summer when the beaches fill.

Westerly’s beaches also supply cold Atlantic water for most of the year, which is a better cold plunge than anything that can be engineered indoors.
