The Cromwell branch of Float Forty One brings float therapy and heat to the towns along the Connecticut River between Hartford and Middletown.
Cromwell sits on a bend of the river with the Route 9 corridor running through it, roughly fifteen minutes from Middletown and twenty from Hartford. It is a quieter setting than the West Hartford location and draws from Rocky Hill, Portland and Berlin as well.
Float therapy uses a tank of Epsom-saturated water at skin temperature, in darkness and silence, so the body floats without effort and sensory input largely stops. The evidence base is better than the practice’s slightly countercultural reputation implies, particularly for anxiety and chronic pain, though the studies tend to be small.
Combined with sauna the pair make a longer session with two distinct halves — one hot and cardiovascularly demanding, the other asking nothing at all. Most people find the float works better second, though it functions either way.
Each tank serves one person, so floats must be reserved in advance. Sauna availability is usually more flexible.
