Sanctuary Sauna Studio in Bristol puts sauna in the name and at the centre of the operation, which is less common in Rhode Island than the number of wellness facilities might suggest.
Bristol is one of the more distinctive towns in New England. It has run the oldest continuous Fourth of July celebration in the United States since 1785, keeps a red-white-and-blue stripe painted down Hope Street year-round, and holds an unusually intact stock of colonial and Federal architecture along a working harbour on Narragansett Bay.
A dedicated sauna studio differs from a wellness centre with a cabin in the corner. When the room is the entire business, the operator generally thinks harder about the variables that matter — heater and stone mass, ventilation, bench height, how quickly the room recovers after water is thrown — and those details are what separate a good session from a merely hot one.
Bristol sits on the East Bay Bike Path between Providence and Newport, roughly twenty minutes from either. Parking is easier than in both.
Sessions book ahead; capacity at studios this size is limited.
