Located at Black Point Surf Shop in Scarborough, Rove Sauna brings guided wood-fired sauna sessions to Maine’s beautiful southern coast. Thoughtfully designed and handcrafted in Maine, Rove Sauna is more than a place to sweat — it’s a community gathering point centered on warmth, nature, and genuine human connection.
Each session is led by a knowledgeable host and accommodates up to 8 guests, creating an intimate, social atmosphere that sets Rove apart from private spa experiences. The format follows the traditional Nordic circuit: three rounds of approximately 15 minutes in the wood-fired sauna, with cooling breaks between each round. At the start of each heat cycle, essential oils are poured over the heated rocks and the host fans the aromatic steam through the room. A ritual that deepens both the sensory experience and the sense of community.
Between sauna rounds, guests cool down with a refreshing bucket shower or relax in the comfortable outdoor seating area, taking in the natural beauty of coastal Maine. The combination of community hosting, aromatherapy, and authentic wood-fired heat creates a grounding experience that guests describe as equal parts relaxing and rejuvenating.
Sessions are $30 per person and run approximately one hour. Rove Sauna is open Fridays from noon to 7 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with expanded weekday availability added in spring 2026. For anyone seeking an authentic sauna experience near Portland, Rove delivers warmth, nature, and connection in every session.

Temporarily Paused
The Town of Scarborough is actively working to pass a new mobile sauna ordinance — and we're making progress! The ordinance was introduced at the Ordinance Committee meeting on June 10th and unanimously passed its 1st reading on June 17th. We are incredibly grateful for the support from our community and fully intend to reopen as soon as mobile saunas are permitted!
Help Bring ROVE Back
Two more steps remain. Next up is a Planning Board Public Hearing on July 20th. If you can't attend in person, joining online or sending a quick message to the Town Council genuinely moves the needle. We encourage supporters to personalize the pre-filled message with their own words.
