Camp Conway offers lodging with sauna access in the Mount Washington Valley, at the eastern gateway to the White Mountains.
Conway sits where Route 16 meets Route 302, the junction most traffic passes through heading for North Conway’s outlet shopping, Cranmore, Attitash or the Kancamagus Highway. The Saco River runs through the valley, and the Presidential Range rises to the northwest with Mount Washington at 6,288 feet — the highest peak in the northeast and the site of the strongest surface wind ever recorded by humans, 231 miles per hour in 1934.
A sauna in this setting has obvious purpose. The valley draws hikers in summer, leaf-peepers in autumn and skiers in winter, and all three activities load the body in ways heat genuinely addresses. The Saco and the mountain streams supply cold water year-round.
New Hampshire’s winters in the White Mountains are severe by any standard, which is exactly the climate northern bathing cultures developed in.
Book through the property. Availability tightens sharply during foliage season and ski holidays.
The Kancamagus Highway begins a few miles west, thirty-four miles of road through the national forest with no services along it, and among the best-known drives in the northeast.
