Nurture Through Nature in Denmark, Maine is one of the most beautifully conceived wellness retreats in all of New England — a solar-powered, off-grid retreat center nestled in 33 acres of forested western Maine mountains, offering traditional Finnish wood-fired sauna sessions and nature-based wellness programming in a setting of extraordinary natural beauty and intentional sustainability. Located near Sebago Lake and the New Hampshire border in western Maine’s Saco River valley, Nurture Through Nature operates year-round sauna sessions that combine the healing power of Finnish sauna culture with the therapeutic dimensions of forest immersion, cold water contrast, and genuine off-grid quiet.
Sauna sessions are available on Fridays year-round and on Sundays from April through September. The experience is as close to authentic Finnish sauna culture as New England offers outside of dedicated Finnish-American communities: a wood-fired sauna in a forested setting with natural cold water access for contrast therapy and the forest itself as the primary healing environment. The retreat’s solar and off-grid infrastructure aligns perfectly with the wellness philosophy that recognizes human health and ecological health as inseparable. Nurture Through Nature has been featured among Maine’s most distinctive sauna experiences.

Maine is the northern part of the Appalachian Mountain Chain where the Wabanaki peoples roamed the Land of the Dawn. Receiving the first light of the new day, the land reaches northeast towards the sunrise over the Atlantic.
Our home base is in Denmark, Maine, a sleepy northern New England hamlet and four-season destination nestled in the heart of western Maine’s lakes and mountains. If you are looking for a relaxing and quiet nature retreat, this is the place to come, easily accessible, yet off the beaten path enough to find deep quiet surrounded by a beautiful, natural setting. Our green facilities are located on 33 wooded and mountainside acres at the base of Pleasant Mountain, a treasured hiking destination by locals.
The private hiking trails on our land offer long and expansive views of the nearby White Mountains and Appalachian Trail. Much of the land on and around Pleasant Mountain is protected from future development through conservation easements gratefully overseen by local environmental organizations including the Loon Echo Land Trust, the Upper Saco Valley Land Trust and the Nature Conservancy.
