The YMCA Allard Center of Goffstown serves the towns west of Manchester with a full recreation facility including sauna.
The YMCA occupies a particular place in American sauna history that is worth stating. For much of the twentieth century, the Y was where most Americans encountered a sauna or steam room at all — long before wellness studios existed, the local Y had a hot room in the locker area, used by an entirely ordinary cross-section of the community. That is closer to the Finnish model than the boutique studios that came later.
Facilities of this kind are also priced for a whole community rather than a demographic, which matters for a practice whose benefits come from frequency. A modest sauna used twice weekly for years will do more than an excellent one visited occasionally.
Goffstown sits on the Piscataquog River west of Manchester, with Glen Lake and the Uncanoonuc Mountains nearby — twin peaks that give the town its skyline and a reasonable hike.
Access generally requires membership. The Y typically offers day passes and income-based rates; ask at the desk.
