Spa at Equinox

The Spa at Equinox serves the resort in Manchester, at the foot of Mount Equinox in southwestern Vermont.

The Equinox has operated as a hotel since 1769, which makes it one of the oldest continuously running in the country. Lincoln’s family summered here. The property sits below Mount Equinox, the highest peak in the Taconic range at 3,848 feet, with a private toll road running to the summit.

Manchester itself has become an unlikely retail destination — a designer outlet cluster sits incongruously among the marble sidewalks and Federal architecture — alongside Hildene, Robert Todd Lincoln’s estate, and the Orvis flagship store, the company having been founded here in 1856.

Resort spas of this scale offer thermal facilities alongside treatment rooms, generally available to guests and often to day visitors. The hours run long because the property does.

Vermont’s winters give the heat genuine purpose, and Manchester sits at the southern end of the Green Mountains with skiing at Bromley and Stratton nearby.
